Commissioning Glass

The process of commissioning a piece (or pieces) of Art Glass begins in many different ways.  Clients approach us with their ideas and requirements in forms ranging from simple sketches and doodles, to images from books or the Internet, to fully worked out schemes.  Often details in flooring, furniture, other widows or architectural features are the inspiration.

Whatever starting point we're presented with, we're normally able to begin the process of developing an idea into a fully detailed design, generally a very enjoyable and interesting process for all concerned.

A full brief is taken and a site visit arranged if required and where distance allows.
If this is impractical for any reason we are quite happy to work at a distance either through email or post and find this works  well.  Following the brief, design sketches and drawings are prepared for consideration and approval.

At this stage outline decisions can be made regarding glass type, colours and textures, and whether the piece is to be single, double or even triple glazed, a fixed price can then be determined.

If following the draft design phase you wish to proceed a small design fee is requested.  At this point a fully scaled and detailed drawing is prepared.  When this is completed a further  opportunity exists to make any final changes or adjustments.

On approval of the final design a further payment is requested.  Some clients pay in full at this point, some pay a deposit payment of 50% of the final price.
The piece is then created.  On completion any outstanding balances are paid either on collection or delivery.  If delivery is by carrier all balances are requested prior to dispatch.

Payments can be made by cash, cheque or PayPal.

If delivery is required this can be arranged locally or by carrier at additional cost.

Measuring for Glass

If the space in which the glass is to be fitted is either square or rectangular simply measure from frame to frame, we can then make an allowance when cutting the glass so that it will fit snuggly in the given space.  Where more complex shapes are involved (arches, circles etc) a template will be required.

Templates can easily be produced by using paper and a wax crayon or similar.  Simply hang the paper over the given space and rub the crayon over the edges of the frame or opening, (much like a brass rubbings are done in churches).  The resulting template can then be used to cut the required shape.  Site visits can be arranged subject to location.

When dealing with re-glazing projects we are able to liaise with the glazing contractor to ensure matches with glass specifications.

Fitting

In the majority of cases fitting glass is a relatively simple process quite within the capabilities of anyone with DIY skills. Should you require fitting services (again where distance allows) we can arrange it.
